Utländska casino 2026: the 10 best for players in Sweden

An utländska casino is simply a foreign casino: an online casino licensed in a country other than Sweden, most often Malta or Curaçao. Swedes also call it a casino utan svensk licens, a casino without a Swedish licence. You can sign up and play from Sweden, and the site follows the rules of its own licensing country.

You notice the difference in the offer straight away. What decides whether a win is tax-free in Sweden is the market the game is aimed at, not the word “foreign”. That is the distinction I find most useful: a label tells you less than the actual rule.

According to Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, winnings are tax-free from games with a Swedish licence. They are also tax-free from games that do not need a Swedish licence and are aimed at a gaming market in another EEA country.

Many English speakers in Sweden assume that every casino utan svensk licens means tax on every win. It does not.

Winnings are taxable if the game targets the Swedish market and needs a Swedish licence it does not have, or if it is an online game not aimed at any EEA market. An EU licence alone does not settle this. Seven casinos in our list are licensed inside the EU by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the rest in Curaçao or Anjouan, but the target market still matters.

Under the Swedish Income Tax Act (chapter 42, section 25), a taxable gambling win is declared if it exceeds SEK 100, with the net counted per operator and year; the Swedish Tax Agency does not specify the limit further.

For taxable winnings, you pay 30% on net winnings (winnings minus stakes), calculated per gambling company and calendar year. You declare them as income from capital (inkomst av kapital), in box 7.2 on the Swedish tax return.

Now put money against those multipliers.
